Book clubs are a great medium for finding like-minded community, enjoying the magic of books on a deeper level, and making new friends – all at the same time. If you want all of that, look no more: Storyfest has the best all-inclusive book club on the Gold Coast!
Slowly but surely, the Gold Coast’s literary scene is changing: with festival events, writers’ workshops, and now a book club, Storyfest is hoping to provide ample opportunity for book lovers to come together and connect on the coast. Like us, you may have felt disconnected in the wake of the pandemic. We hope that our exciting all-inclusive book club will provide an antidote to isolation, regardless of who you are.
Started by Dr Krista Talbot, a local general practitioner on the Gold Coast, the Storyfest book club is set to take your love of reading to a whole new level.
Talbot attended Somerset College as a student, and she is now involved in Storyfest’s sponsorship program, raising money to bring students from other schools across Queensland and northern New South Wales to Storyfest festival events. She wanted to find another way to raise money in an effort to help more children experience the magic of Storyfest, and so the idea of a book club was born.
How the Storyfest book club works
We all have busy lives filled with many responsibilities, so we didn’t want to make this book club another chore. Therefore, the Storyfest book club will only entail three books a year. But here’s the best part: you’ll get to meet each author too! Unlike other book clubs, you’ll get the chance to discuss each title with its writer, adding even more nuance to these readings.
The book club discussions will be facilitated at three wonderful Storyfest events, which you can choose to attend or not. It’s completely up to you.
How to become a book club member
Becoming a member is easy, and it only costs $100 for the year! This includes copies of all three books, attendance to events two and three along with drinks and nibbles, as well as a 10% discount to all Storyfest events.
It’s not very often that you get to be part of an amazing experience and give back to your community at the same time – but that’s exactly what this book club is. By joining the book club, you will know that your membership fee is going towards creating more opportunities for young readers and writers on the Gold Coast. We hope to see you at the first event on the 23rd of February, at our Bubbles, Books and Brunch with Jo Dixon!
