Lucia Masciullo

Lucia is an award-winning children’s book illustrator born and bred in Livorno, Italy. She moved to Australia in 2007 and she now lives and works on the beautiful Gold Coast.

Lucia has collaborated with several top Australian and English Publishers and illustrated fifteen books, among which the CBCA Honour Book and Prime Minister Award shortlisted Come Down, Cat!, written by award-winning author Sonya Hartnett, CBCA shortlisted Family Forest and the best-selling series Our Australian Girl.

In this fun and engaging presentation award-winning illustrator Lucia Masciullo takes the students on an amazing journey showing what it takes to tell a story using illustrations. With her latest book as an example, Lucia shares with the audience where ideas come from and how to create compelling images for a picture book. In the second half of the presentation children are invited to draw along with Lucia one of the book characters.

Workshop Overview
In this fun and engaging presentation award-winning illustrator Lucia Masciullo reveals how to create irresistible characters for an illustrated story. Lucia takes the students by hand and shows them how to go from a stick figure to a well rounded character with its identifiable details and unique quirks. This is a free-flow presentation, where children are strongly invited to participate, draw along and conceptualise their creative ideas without worrying too much about mistakes or the technicalities of drawing.
