Cheryl Leavy is an award-winning writer working across non-fiction, poetry, and children's literature. Passionate about language revitalisation, Cheryl is from the Kooma and Nguri nations in Western and Central Queensland. Her first bilingual children’s book, Yanga Mother, was published by UQP in 2024. Cheryl’s poetry has been published by Cordite, Griffith Review, and in the UQP anthology Words to Sing the World Alive. She has been commissioned by Camerata (Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra), the Queensland Art Gallery, the Institute of Modern Art and Kanazawa 21 Art Museum in Japan. Cheryl is a former winner of the prestigious Oodgeroo Noonuccal Prize for Indigenous Poetry and is a current Queensland Writers Fellow and Queensland Museum Fellow.
